Nature GO
Insect identifier app: how to identify a bug you just found
Film the insect up close and steady, keep the whole body in frame, then check the species the app suggests. Nature GO is a free animal identifier for Android that works from an eight-second video filmed live in the app. The service checks four frames and the movement, then suggests a species for insects, birds, mammals, plants and more.

How to film an insect for a good answer
- Wings, legs and antennae in frame. These are what an identifier compares. A blurred body or a cropped wing gives a weak answer.
- Come close slowly. Many insects stay still if you move gently. Never handle a bee, wasp or hornet to get a better shot.
- Follow the movement challenge. Nature GO asks for a short camera movement during the eight seconds, so the frames show the insect from slightly different angles.
- Check the suggestion. Compare the photo references and the field mark before you confirm. An identification can be inconclusive, and the app says so.
What Nature GO does with your find
Every confirmed capture goes into your nature dex of 151 widespread species, in five drawers: Birds, Plants, Insects, Mammals and Others, such as spiders, snails, frogs and fungi. Blank entries show their number and a field mark, never the name, so the next walk becomes a hunt. Species outside the list go to Beyond the 151.
What it does not do
Nature GO does not identify from gallery photos, imported files or sounds. Identification needs an internet connection and can pause when daily analysis limits are reached. It is not a pest control or medical tool: for a sting, a bite or an infestation, ask a professional.
